Just before a -1.6ft. low tide this morning, (11:15AM) there were 4
HEERMAN'S GULLS with 6 CASPIAN TERNS on the sandbar off Meadow Point, Golden
Gardens Park, Ballard, Seattle. Also 5 GREAT BLUE HERONS nearby. Lots (100?)
of Mallards, still in eclipse. Also 9 KILDEER flew onto the lawn while I
was walking back to the car.

Does anyone know why they picked the name herodias for the Great Blue Heron?
Ardea _herodias_ I know who Herodias was, (Mother of Salome, wife of two of
her Uncles, both named Herod), but why name the bird after her, if they
were, the plumes? Thanks.
