Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday August 31. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On August 28 a BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATER was seen among a swarm of SOOTY
and PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS off Boiler Bay. It, or another, was seen
there August 30. An ELEGANT TERN and four POMARINE JAEGERS were there
August 28.

A RUFF was seen August 29 on the deflation plane at the South Jetty of
the Siuslaw River. On August 30 another RUFF was at the mouth of China
Creek, south of Bandon.

An immature SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was along the Kings Valley Highway
south of Dallas August 26.

The BLUE-WINGED WARBLER continues to be seen along Indian Ford Creek
north of Sisters.

On August 24 three BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found on the North Spit
of Coos Bay. They have remained. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER is also being
seen there. Another was at Sand Lake, south of Tillamook August 26.

An ARCTIC TERN was at the mouth of the D River in Lincoln City August 29.
An ARCTIC and 7 COMMON TERNS were at the mouth of Necanicum River in
Seaside the same day.

Heavy SWAINSON'S THRUSH movements were reported during the week as
landbird migrations get well underway.

A RUDDY DUCK with 4 chicks were seen August 24 at Ridgefield NWR. Up to 7
CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS were seen during the week near the top of Marys Peak
in the Coast Range. On August 29 a PRAIRIE FALCON was in the EE Wilson
SWA north of Corvallis. A FOX SPARROW was in Eugene August 26. A SOLITARY
SANDPIPER and 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir near
Eugene August 26.

A female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at a Bend feeder August 28. On
August 27 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Malheur NWR about a mile north of
the P Ranch. A NORTHERN PARULA was at Headquarters that day.
