Birded Ocean Shores today (12/2) with Marvin Cooper. Highlights include:
SNOWY OWL: A first year bird at the very end of Damon Point. The bird was
perched about 15 feet from the ground in a small tree.
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE: 10 birds on the golf course and later in the day 4 more
on Damon Pond.
TROPICAL KINGBIRD: After looking off and on all day near the marina we
finally saw one bird on a wire along the road near the marina at about
4:30PM. This is at the fishing dock where the spillway is.
DUNLIN: Literally thousands of birds in spectacular displays over Damon
Point. Ribbons of dark and light folding back on themselves reminiscent of
the northern lights.
LEAST SANDPIPER: 15 on logs in the harbor.
BLACK TURNSTONES: 6 on logs in the harbor
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK: One near the end of Damon Point. Another at Tonquin and
Marine View Drive.
MERLIN: Perched at the base of Damon Pt early in the morning.
PEREGRINE FALCON: Chasing Dunlin at Damon Point Pond.
NORTHERN SHRIKE: 2 juveniles
PACIFIC LOON: Good looks of one bird in the lake behind the water tower.
