The feature Birds are PALM WARBLER, WILSON'S WARBLER & possible BEWICK'S
SWAN

Sightings for Sunday, Dec. 3:

An immature PALM WARBLER was discovered at 11:00am at the corner of
Carrington Street and Deering Island Place. It moved to a brushy area across
the street called Deering Island Park and was relocated at 3 pm. This park
is located on Carrington just past the bridge that takes you onto Deering
Island. The adult male WILSON'S WARBLER was again seen throughout the day at
the corner of Celtic Street and Carrington Street.

The bird believed to be a possible BEWICK'S SWAN was again seen at Kilby
Park
along the Harrison. Anyone seeing this bird is asked to carefully check it
over as everyone who has phoned the Bird Alert so far are not positive of
the bird's identification. To reach Kilby park take Highway 7 through
Mission and continue until
the Sasquatch Inn. Just past the Inn is a large bridge that crosses the
Harrison River.
As soon as you cross the bridge make an immediate right hand turn. Look for
a sign
saying "Kilby Historic Site". Follow this road to the very end and this will
be Kilby Park.
The possible BEWICK'S SWAN was seen with approximately 5 TUNDRA SWANS along
the waters adjacent to the park this morning at 10:30 am.

At the Reifel Refuge today the immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK and the
REDHEAD were again reported.

An AMERICAN KESTREL and 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were
seen at the base of the Roberts Bank Coalport Jetty. Meanwhile at the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty the WILLET was still present at the base on the
southside of the Jetty.

Saturday, Dec 2:

An immature SNOWY OWL was seen at 10:00 am in the morning just past the
Pumphouse along the South Jetty at Iona Island. It was flushed to the North
Arm Jetty by 11 am. There were 6000 DUNLIN reported from the tip of the
South Jetty and 15 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen past the Pumphouse on the road.

At Maplewood Mudflats in North Vancouver 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and 8
RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen.

The following birds were reported from the Reifel Refuge: 2 SWAMP SPARROWS
1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON, 100
PINE SISKINS & 12 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES.

The WILLET, 3 SNOW BUNTINGS and 1 BLACK OYSTERCATCHER were seen along the
south side of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

At Deas Island Regional Park were 2 GREAT HORNED OWLS, 1 immature PEREGRINE
FALCON and 1 female PILEATED WOODPECKER.

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was at Blackie Spit.

At Colony Farm was 1 juvenile NORTHERN SHRIKE and 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

Friday, Dec 1:

A bird fitting the description of an adult BEWICK'S SWAN was reported in
Kilby Park along the Harrison River. The possible BEWICK'S SWAN was seen on
the lake with a large flock of TUNDRA SWANS.

At Iona Island the immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was again seen along the
Causeway. Also here was a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a dark phase immature
RED-TAILED HAWK. Nearby on the Outer pond the TUFTED DUCK was again
reported.

The adult male WILSON'S WARBLER was again seen at Carrington Street and
Celtic Street in the Southlands area of Vancouver.

At Beaver Creek in Stanley Park the AMERICAN DIPPER was again reported.

Thursday, November 30

An immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was on Iona Island, in the woodlot near the
sewage treatment plant's main entrance. A SHORT-EARED OWL was on the south
jetty at the pumphouse.

The AMERICAN DIPPER was again in Stanley Park's Beaver Lake Creek, and a
ROCK SANDPIPER was along the seawall with BLACK TURNSTONES, SANDERLING and a
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER.

On the south side of the Tsawwassen jetty were the WILLET and 3 SNOW
BUNTINGS, while the AMERICAN BLACK DUCK was on the compensation lagoon.

The Reifel Refuge TUFTED DUCK, present Nov. 23, 24, and 25, has not been
reported since.

The COMMON GRACKLE, found on Nov. 27 in the vicinity of W. 52nd and
Blenheim, in the Southlands area, has not been relocated.

Wednesday, Nov. 29:

An adult male SNOWY OWL was at the southwest tip of the Vancouver airport
property in the early morning. At sunset, it flew toward Lulu Island.

The AMERICAN DIPPER was in Stanley Park's Beaver Creek.
