A NORTHERN HAWK-OWL is residing about 9 miles south of Colville, Stevens Co,
WA. Ken Knittle found the bird Sun Nov 12. Birders saw it on Nov 24. The
bird is along US 395 about 9 miles south of Colville in the vicinity of
milepost 219. It has been seen on the west side of the hwy above the green
and yellow waste management sign, 100 yards down the road toward the waste
management plant. It's also been seen along the Old State Hwy, which lies
east of the current 395. You can get there by heading south from milepost
219 and turning left on 12 Mile Road and taking it to Old State Hwy. Head
back north checking tree tops. Also check along Slide Creek. A MERLIN was
also reported in the general area. Some folks have had to scour the area for
up to 3 hours before spotting the owl. WA DeLorme 104, A-1.5, T34N, R39E,

A smaller flock of 4 SNOW BUNTINGS was on the Rathdrum Prairie north of Post
Falls, Kootenai Co ID on Nov 28 according to Stephen Lindsay. To get to
these birds, take I-90 west from Coeur d'Alene to ID 41. Exit north toward
Rathdrum and go through the traffic signals at Mullan, Poleline, Praire and
Hayden Avenues and then turn right on Lancaster. The birds have been
foraging along a small cut bank halfway between Meyers and Huetter Roads. ID
DeLorme 60, AB-1.
