Birders,

I am forwarding the attached message about a BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLER present at Balfour, B.C. (near Nelson) from about November 24
through December 1. There are only 2 or 3 previous records for B.C.

I'm not sure if the bird is still present there, but I hope someone
can give us an update soon!

Subject: [wkbirds] Black-throated Blue Warbler

Hi All
Yesterday I got a call from a fellow in Balfour about a bird coming to
his feeders for about the last week. He thought it was a BTBW. His
detailed description certainly sounded like a BTBW. This morning I
drove down to Balfour and within minutes there it was. Based upon the
slight mottling of the black throat area and the kind of drabness of
the blue areas, I would guess this is a first-year male. It was eating
a mixture of suet & seeds provided by the home owners. It was very
cooperative, showed up almost as soon as I got there. I was able to
watch it for a half hour out of 1.5 hours from a distance of about 15'
through the kitchen/dining room windows. Got a cup of coffee too. Boy
this bird watching is tough :-)

The home owners, Gene DeMott and his wife (whose name escapes me)
would be happy to let others get a look. You can phone them at
229-5371. Their fire address is 6728. Their place is just 2 properties
from the Grandview Properties heading toward Nelson on the lake side.

Cheers
