Clarice and tweeters,
We have one "standard issue" feeder, the glass and four flower type you
see everywhere. This time of year, especially if it gets cold, we go
through as much sugar water as we do in the spring and summer. I have at
least 2 males and a female visit regularly and in past winters I have
looked out at the feeder and noticed as many as 4 Annas sitting in
trees waiting their turn at the feeder. There seems to be a very large
concentration of Annas on the western edges of Richmond Beach and
Woodway/Edmonds close to the Sound. In winter they become very active at
feeders and on sunny days you can't take a walk in the area without
hearing one or two vocalizing in the trees. Just last evening I went out
to refill the feeder and in the process of returning it to its hanger, I
had a very bold male Annas land at the station before I had a chance to
even get the feeder out of my hand. I gently placed the feeder on the
hook while the bird sat there sipping sugar water like it was his last
meal.
Also as a side note, just because you don't see them it doesn't mean
their not stopping by. So keep you feeder clean and fresh-even if they
don't appear to be used.
