Four of us birded the Columbia Gorge on Friday, Dec. 8th.

The TUFTED DUCK was still at Bingen but not Swamp Sparrow was seen.,
A dozen or so WESTERN BLUEBIRDS were at Doug's Beach.
What might have been an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was seen in a flock of
hundred(s) of juncos and sparrows along Dalles Mt. Road in the blackberry
thickets. We saw no central spot but the gray breast and the bright rufous
cap. Then we could not relocate it for further study.

On the way from Lyle to Balch Rd we saw 3 ACORN WOODPECKERS at "their" tree.
With the scope you could even see the nuts in the holes. From that area and
onto Balch Rd, there were 30 or more Lewis' Woodpeckers.

We also saw a CALIFORNIA QUAIL with TWO top notches.
