December 10, 1:25 PM - Hi, this is Ruth Taylor in Seattle (206) 781-7216.
Today from about 11:45 to 12:15, I watched a PEREGRINE FALCON trying to
drive off a brown-faced GYRFALCON that was mostly flying back and forth and
perching on cranes on Matson Container property. Matson Container is
between East Marginal Way and the waterway just north of Spokane Street. I
did see the bird in flight very well against dark clouds. Also was able to
get a scope on it when it was perched. I did see the wings before it took
off. It was definitely not trailing any jesses. The last time I saw the bird
it was perched on Crane 32 and then took off and headed in the direction of
the freeway bridge and dropped out of sight. I was not able to relocate it.

Today Marcus Roening and I, along with a few other birders, including Rick
Romea, Greg Toffic, and Barry Levin saw the two ARCTIC LOONS up at Point No
Point which Gene Hunn and George Gerdts saw yesterday. They were near the
lighthouse not far from Vic's dock. All the field marks were noted that Gene
alluded to a couple of reports previous. They are still around. Very dark
and very obviously different from the PACIFIC LOONS nearby. Returning to
Tacoma, I did go down and see the YELLOW-BILLED LOON which is still along
Ruston Way near the Asarco slag pile. So, all in all, it was a wonderful
day. Five species of loon. Good luck and good birding.

December 10, 5:58 PM - Hi, this is Steven Mlodinov. Today Ryan Shaw and I
went to Kilbee Provincial Park east of Vancouver and saw the BEWICK'S SWAN.
This is almost as far east as Harrison Hot Springs. You can get directions
from the Vancouver tape. At Blaine later in the day we had the LONG BILLED
CURLEW and three MARBLED GODWITS that have been there for some time. At Lake
Terrell Wildlife Management Area we had two SLATE COLORED JUNCOS. At the
Lummi Flats we had to HARLAN'S HAWKS. That's it. Good luck and good birding.
