We do see some mixed waxwing flocks here in north-central Idaho and also in
large feeding flocks along with robins and other species. Early in the
season (usually November) I have seen Cedar Waxwing flocks with a few
Bohemians. Later on large flocks of Bohemians predominate although their
arrival varies from year to year. Last winter the large flocks did not show
up until February. When present, these large flocks are often seen flying
around town in large, strung out groups, calling loudly.

At times Bohemians are very common and Cedars hard to find but large mixed
feeding flocks of waxwings, robins, and other birds are also sometimes found
on heavily laden Mountain Ashes in town. Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings will be
feeding together in these situations. This year I have seen no Bohemain
Waxwings (and few Cedars for that matter) in Moscow although the Mountain
Ashes are full of berries (the Bohemians just haven't gotten here yet).
