Having spent multiple 6 hour watches glue to an infrared image-enhanced
periscope (dancing with the fat lady), I can assure you eye fatigue is an
issue. Searching for perched owls using night vision binoculars would be
an eyestrain for long periods. If you were to use them to search, say
fenceposts or telephone poles where there is contrast and a natural focal
point, it might prove to be a successful enterprise. But I can't imagine
going into a forest in search of an owl at night with them. As a tool,
they too have their limits.
