I second this assessment of Mathew's guide. I don't usually like guides
that only show the most common species, but this one is an exception. The
section on bryophytes (mosses and lichens) is one of the few popular
accounts of this group. The entire book is highly readable and
entertaining, with lots of nature and history trivia.
