Hi Tweets,

Today (12/17) from about 1 to 2:15 pm, there were 2 Short-tailed Shearwaters
(in the company of ~ 500 Bonaparte's Gulls) working the tidal current just
off Pt. Defiance in Tacoma. One of these birds was first noticed by Rick
Romea, while leading a SAS field trip, from the Owens Beach parking lot in
Pt. Defiance Park. I hiked out to the point from there on the ebb tide and
got great looks (scope and binos) at two small, dark shearwaters foraging
75-100 yards offshore. They were classic short-tails based on head/bill
structure and wing lining pattern and I observed both in flight and on the
water.

Earlier in the day (8-10 am), I had no luck with the Arctic Loons at Pt No
Pt.

Good Birding,
