On the Vancouver Lake Lowlands part of the Sauvie Island/Vancouver
Lake/Ridgefield NWR CBC on Sunday, Dec. 17th the hightlight birds were:

14 SHORT-EARED OWLS in the Shilapoo dry lake area about 4 PM. There could
have been more but this was all we could find flying or sitting in view at
one time.

1 CLARK'S GREBE at the flushing channel area of the lake.

31 GREAT EGRETS
240 SANDHILL CRANE west of Post Office Lake.
1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS Rufner's Pond
1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS Rufner's Pond (same time as above one)
1 BONAPART'S GULL
2 GREAT HORNED OWLS calling early at Flushing Channel area
1 WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH on the trail north of the park.
1 TRI-COLORED BLACKBIRD as previously seen in amongst ~1350 other
blackbirds!

Count group: Arden & Sherry Hagen, Mark Miller, & Steve Lanigan
Count hours: 7 AM to 4:15 PM
Counts were low and species spotted earlier in the week were not found, such
as, the 6 Tree Sparrows or even the 60 Savannahs Sparrows at Shilapoo.
