106 species of birds were found on the Washington State side of the
Sauvie Island C.B.C., held on Dec.17. Twenty two people participated in
the count which was the Vancouver Audubon Chapter's twenty fifth
anniversary of helping with this C.B.C. The TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD and the
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL were new to our side of the count circle. Both the
TUNDRA SWAN and SANDHILL CRANE numbers were higher than past years
counts. Two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were also a real bonus as they are a
review species in this State. The two species of YELLOWLEGS were seen
side by side giving excellent comparisons. The hybrid RED-BREASTED x
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was in the same tree where it was found last year.
