Tweeters,

The final tallies for the Sequim CBC, held 12/18, are in. Our 88
counters and 9 feeder watchers ended up with 142 species and 55,210
individuals, our second highest tallies for both. We were very lucky to
have very few misses. For example, for only the second time in our
count's history we observed 9 gull species and 8 owl species.

"Noteworthy" birds included:

Yellow-billed Loon - 2
Cinnamon Teal - 2
Prairie Falcon - 1
Sora - 1
Marbled Godwit - 1
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
LB Dowitcher - 3
Snowy Owl - 2
White-throated Sparrow - 2

Record high counts occurred for several species (perhaps due to better
coverage, or to genuinely higher numbers):

Common Loon - 184
Double-crested Cormorant - 283
Brandt's Cormorant - 40
Trumpeter Swan - 34
Gr. Wh-fr. Goose - 11
Greater Scaup - 371
Oldsquaw - 1709
Bald Eagle - 102
Peregrine Falcon - 10
Common Murre - 900
Ancient Murrelet - 1878 (!!!) (All observed from our boat between
Protection Island and Dungeness Spit and by the Dungeness Spit walkers.
This is more than triple last year's record total. There are obviously a
bundle of Ancient Murrelets in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca -- but
infrequently seen from shore)
Mourning Dove - 111
Gray Jay - 30
Steller's Jay - 203
Marsh Wren - 87
Spotted Towhee - 341
Song Sparrow - 885
Dark-eyed Junco - 1663

And thanks to all participants -- WOW! You did great!!
