Hi, Tweets

Since the gyr has been seen relatively close to where "my" eagles nest, I
took my visiting mother for a ride to look for it. We just got back and did
not see the gyr, which doesn't mean a thing, of course - it was mid-day and
not a lot was flying (or sitting).

However . . . my eagles were both on their nest doing reconstruction for
the coming season. At the Snohomish River bank, an adult female Peale's
peregrine was perched on a dead snag not far from the road. I didn't need
the scope at all, but had it out (with binocs not in reachable distance)
and all of a sudden the peregrine dropped like a dead weight from the tree
while another slightly larger bird flew directly overhead. My guess would
have been a tiercel redtail (but had hoped for the gyr, however it was a
darkish bird). I never saw the peregrine again. Saw 6-7 redtails, including
one dark morph. Also, two small 'flocks' (7,11) of trumpeter swans on the
flats southwest of Snohomish. Oh, yes, and a huge flock of lovely corvids
having a late pumpkin feast in a field off of Treosti Road.

Cheers, Diann
