here is more information about fenthion. this chemical pesticide is
being srayed throguhout florida to control biting and sucking insects
-- mostly mosquitoes. however, fenthion is highly toxic to birds
and is killing millions of resident and migratory birds in this area.
at least a few of these birds are on the endangered species list.
this sensitivity to fention is so extreme in birds that another use
for fenthion is as a "birdicide": a bird-killing chemical that is
applied to feed and to branches in roosts. in view if the fact that
other chemicals are at least as effective as fenthion but with
less "collateral damage," i wonder why they are using fenthion
at all?
