Art......spend the money and get a GOOD binocular. I'm not a binos expert,
but after years of putting up with the weight and average performance of the
Tasco I had, (not to mention the eye strain and headaches) I spent a LOT of
money on a Zeiss. It was money well spent. A poor binoculars will do nothing
but aggravate you, give you headaches, and make you want to quit birding.
And forgive me, but six years and the Mirador is broken? That shouldn't
happen. Six years old is not old for a binocular. We've had numerous
discussions about binos on Tweeters. There's a lot of good brands out there.
Sure, they're spendy, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I've had my
Zeiss for um.....6 years now! And it's as clear, it performs just as
fabulously as it did when I first looked through it. And it's been dropped a
couple times......no problem. Finally, if it ever DOES get knocked out of
alignment, Zeiss has a lifetime warranty on their optics. I'm certain the
other big dogs have them, too.
Save your money if you need to, but in the case of a binocular, you get what
you pay for.
