Hello Tweets,

Today Jim Pruske, Dave Hayden, and my mother, and I birded mainly Pacific
Co., starting by searching for the WHITE IBIS along Bay Center Dike Rd. at
7:45am, along with other birders, with NO LUCK. The weather throughout the
day was fair, but quite cool at times, but NO rain, except on route, and
minor wind. Our first species of the day was a BARN OWL at M.P.19 along
Hwy.12, just west of Elma at 6:35am. After searching for the ibis with NO
success we headed for Ft.Canby S.P. to locate the MOUNTAIN PLOVER. On route
to Illwaco a few notable highlights included 6 TRUMPETER SWANS at the north
end of the Lewis Unit of the Willapa N.W.R. in Willapa Bay, and a single
WHITE-TAILED KITE along Hwy.101 at M.P.18. At Black Lake in Illwaco were 6
TRUMPETER SWANS, then soon after arriving at Ft.Canby S.P, we located the
MOUNTAIN PLOVER, which was found at 9:30am, and not before. The bird was
photographed and well observed in the same vicinity as in previous
observations, as many birders were present, until we left at 11:15am. Other
notable species noted (from the jetty) included:

2 SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS
21 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES
3 Herring Gulls

We later birded the Chinook Valley Rd., where 4 adult WHITE-TAILED KITES
were located in open fields, as in previous visits, and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.
We headed back north to Bay Center, but not before locating a TURKEY VULTURE
beween M.P.17 and 18 along Hwy.101, just northeast of Chinook. We arrived
back at Bay Center at about 1pm, where a CLARK'S GREBE was relocated along
the Palix River, east of Hwy.101, which was first noted by Ken Knittle
earlier, after seeing the Mountain Plover. We spent 2 hours walking the Bay
Center Dike Rd., searching the open fields, and scoping the Palix River at
times, but the White Ibis could not be relocated, upon extensive searching,
among other birders on site. Notable species that were encountered on or
from this road during one or both visits included:

22 GR.WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
1 PEREGRINE FALCON
1 Virginia Rail(heard only)
76 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
78 LEAST SANDPIPERS
23 Dunlin
8 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS
3 Common Snipe
1 Great Horned Owl(heard calling at 2:45pm)

On our way home we checked Brady Loop Rd. at 3:45pm, where highlights
included:

69 TRUMPETER SWANS
13 TUNDRA SWANS
1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
1 pair of AM.KESTREL
1 Merlin
42 MOURNING DOVES
8 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS

Despite not relocating the White Ibis at Bay Center, we had a great day of
birding!
