This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Sunday, Dec. 31st Evening Update.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the BLACK-HEADED GULL.

The feature birds are BLACK-HEADED GULL and PRAIRIE FALCON.

Out of town rarities include 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES in Tofino, and in
Washington State a WHITE IBIS, MOUNTAIN PLOVER and ARCTIC LOON.

Sightings for Sunday, December 31

The adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was reported from various locations near the
intersection of 36th & 72nd in Delta. At the foot of 72nd was a PRAIRIE
FALCON. From the foot of 88th came the report of 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS
and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW.

Two BULLOCK'S ORIOLES have been seen over the past few days frequenting
feeders behind the Roy Vickers Gallery.

Birders heading into Washington State over the holiday period should be
aware of a WHITE IBIS at Baid Center on Wilipa Bay, an ARCTIC LOON at Pt. No
Pt., and a MOUNTAIN PLOVER at Carby State Park For further details on these

Saturday, December 30

The BLACK-HEADED GULL continued to be seen in its past location of 36th &
72nd in Delta.

Six roosting LONG-EARED OWLS were reported from Richmond's Terra Nova Park.

Out of town comes the report of an immature ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK at 1905
York Rd. in Cedar near Nanaimo. For more information contact the Nanaimo

Friday, December 29

The adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was observed for most of the day in various
fields in the vicinity of 72nd & 36th Avenue in Delta.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen near 176th & 24th Ave. in south Surrey.

A male EURASIAN WIGEON was sighted on Stanley Park's Lost Lagoon. Near by
at Ferguson Point were 14 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Thursday, December 28

The adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was first discovered with MEW GULLS in a field
100 m West of 72nd on 36th in Delta. Observed near the foot of 72nd were a
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and an AMERICAN BITTERN.

The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was located behind the picnic tables at the
Reifel Refuge. Also reported from Reifel were a GREAT HORNED OWL, 2
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS, & 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS.
