Hello All,

It was good to see such a prompt and overwhelming response to my post
concerning the Bald eagles. I did not mean to imply that they were in fact
extinct or even going extinct. If that is what people thought I meant than I
apologize.

Yet, it seems that people use their personal experience and limited data base
to try to prove one thing or another. Some point to the Bald Eagle, The
Whooping Crane, The Elk, and many others and say, "look how well we are
doing!" Others will say, "Look at the decline overall that is going on
Worldwide of Amphibians, Reptiles, Fishes, and Birds, all is not well".
These beliefs in generaI, reflect a great confusion amongst the general
public when it comes to the State of Our Environment.

My point? It would be nice if there was one or two authoratative sources one
could go to that would give people the necessary information they need to
make an informed decision concerning the environment. As it stands now we
have none, only a tower of Bable of those trying to prove that we are either
on the verge of extinction vs. those who say things have never been better.

I have watched the environmental movement for about thirty years now and
while it did seem to have its successes, I believe it is now resting on its
Laurels, pointing to a few showcase species and saying "Look how well we have
done". This is the time of Maximum Danger. If we are not shaken from our
slumber soon we shall all be in for a rude awakening.
