Speaking of bald eagles . . . has anyone else out there noticed bald eagles
actually nesting/on eggs possibly this early? When I was out to check
"my" eagles (a nest I have monitored for ca. 14 years), the adult was in a
nearby tree, nest empty, so it seemed. We had lunch while there, checking
out the eagle off and on and it finally flew off somewhere. It soon
returned to land on the nest edge and, lo and behold, up popped a head from
the nest cup. The female had been sitting so low we could not glimpse even
the top of her head (the nest is old and quite large). This is by far the
earliest I have seen eagles at this nest actually seeming to be on eggs.
In fact, they are usually a week or so later than some pairs, usually in
March and once in early April. Has the mild winter changed the dates???
