I tried a few of the "reliable" locations near Moses Lake this morning and
could not find any Snowy Owls. Mike Denny told me about another
"traditional" area south of Moses Lake, and sure enough, there was a Snowy
Owl. It was sitting on top of center pivot irrigation equipment just north
of Road 4 SE, about a quarter mile east of Road K SE. (See DeLorme Atlas p
69, D 6-7) This is the first time that I have checked this particular
location, but Snowy Owls do seem to be pretty traditional around here.

To get there from I-90, take the east Moses Lake exit at SR 17 and head
southeast toward Othello. Go 2 miles and turn onto Road M, which angles
south at the potato processing plant. Go three miles south to Road 4 and
turn right (west) and look at all of the irrigation systems for a couple of
miles. It was sitting up high at 10 a.m. this morning. You may have to
look at lots of white buckets, riser covers, and white tops on the sprinkler
systems before you find the one with two black eye spots.
