Today, I birded the Tacoma tide flats from noon to 2 pm. From Portland St.
to Lincoln St. turn left on to Stewert St. follow to the left towards the
river. Park by the locked gate and walk the dike road towards the 11 St.
bridge. Near the bridge many gulls were bathing in the river around 1 PM.
Among the flock was the Slaty-backed. I was able to view the gull for about 3
mins. before it disappeared on to one of the roof tops near by. There are 2
or 3 very dark Westerns in this area also. Be very carefull in your
observation. The Iceland hasn't been seen for at least a week. I could not
find any of the Glaucous Gulls either.
