On Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000 we left the snowy hills of Cle Elum and headed to the
warmer climate of Desert Aire to look for the Artic Loon. We took the road
at the north end of Desert Aire but could not find the loon so we headed to
the south end. We turned down Orchard Drive and saw a loon in the channel
between Desert Aire and the south end of Goose Island (appx 1/4 mile north of
the dam). We put our scope on it and it looked like the picture in National
Geographics 3rd edition page 21, winter adult Artic Loon. This was between
12:30 and 1:00 pm.
