Rufus hummingbirds have not come to my feeder in Bellingham much before
March 10 each year. But, they arrive at the area around the Mt. Baker Ski
Area in the first or second week of April and long before the snow melts we
will have dozens swarming the feeders into May. Often they are at the feeder
right through blizzards! Then as the melt occurs in May and into June the
crowd thins. Usually at least a few stay until early September. Since none
of the ground cover plants bloomed until late June last year, I don't know
where they are finding food.
