Many were more than 10, few less than 10. Possible sightings, but not sure,
were a Red naped sapsucker, nighthawk, western flycatcher(pacific slope),
cowbirds.
There were many Brown pelicans dead on the beaches. As many as 10 in a 100
yard stretch. We were sure we had a Laughing gull and when we went back to
our room we started talking ourselves out of it in favor of a Franklins gull.
But I still lean towards the Laughing gull. (first impressions being the
best?). We didn't take a boat trip and we didn't want to spend all our time
trying to figure out the gulls so we dont have a list of pelagics. The book
"A Guide to the Birds of Mexico and Northern Central America" was great and
so were our Peterson's and National Geographic guides. Thanks to those who
recommended them. We spent almost all of our time birding and rented a car.
In one week we had 82 species. Not great but 29 were lifers and that makes
it exciting.
see you in the field
