Hi Tweeters. Lately we've been visited by at least 1 accipiter species (I'm
thinking an imm Cooper's Hawk). We have over 100 Pine Siskens around eating
lots and lots of seed and they are apparently pretty easy pickings for them.
3 days ago my dad and I noticed all the Pine Siskens fly off the feeders so
we went outside and saw nothing until a crow came flying with great
acrobatics and pointed out the precise location of the hawk, though we still
couldn't see it until it flew with a Pine Sisken in it's talons. And this
morning I woke up to my dad yelling "It got another one! It got another one!"
By the time I got up and to the window it had flown away. My dad said that it
had something that looked like a Pine Sisken it it's claws. Oh and by the
way I haven't seen any Red Crossbills lately. The last time I saw them there
were at least 70, the most I have ever counted as of yet. But that was a few
weeks ago so they may have flown away by now. Good Birding!
