Clarice and I were hiking the dike at Bayview (Padilla Bay) Yesterday
evening just before dark. Just a little north of the place where the old two
story house used to be I was looking at the usual golden crown sparrows
foraging in the blackberries when she saw a "little green and yellow guy"
sallying up after bugs. I didn't see it so of course I ignored it, but when we
were coming back along the same part of the dike I saw it too. This was the
only part of the dike where we saw any flying insects at all, and this was
clearly a warbler flitting out like a little flycatcher (really, more like a yellow
rump).

We both did our best to get a better look, even climbing down the dike to the
muddy field below, and saw it close up several times, but never for more than
an instant. The best either of us can say is it looked to be a female
MacGillivray: greenish back, bright yellow under tail, greyish hood, and the
throat did not appear to be yellow (also did not have the miniature bananaquit
shaped beak of a female common yellowthroat). Problem is neither of us
ever saw the eye crescents.

Whatever, It weren't a kinglet and I suppose its going to get cold at night
roung here in Feb.
