This weekend my wife Jo and I took advantage of the nice weather and went on an overnighter east of the mountains. The roads were very good, we had lots of bright sun, and temperatures were somewhat chilly mostly in the 20's.

Sunday morning In the town of Chelan, Chelan County, we saw about 20 Common Redpolls in trees in a residential area about 5 blocks north of central downtown, at the intersection of E. Gibson and N. Markeson.

Also Sunday, we drove the Wakefield-Cameron Lk Rd loop, beginning at Hwy 97 about 6 miles NE of Brewster, Okanogan County. At mile 10.0 we saw 10 Snow Buntings along the road. Resetting our odometer at the intersection with Greenaway Rd, continuing on to mile 3.7 we found a big flock of about 50 Common Redpolls. A short distance further north we turned east on Big Goose Road (= Timentwa Rd in DeLorme). On that road, at mile 0.6 we found 20 more Snow Buntings, and at mile 2.0 a dozen Gray Partridges posing nicely for us alongside the road.

We searched unsuccessfully for Gray-crowned Rosy Finches, both there and in the Hwy 2 canyon west of Waterville, (Douglas Co), and in Moses Coulee. None to be found. Large numbers of Horned Larks were seen everywhere.
