There really is a species of gos called the chanting goshawk. I don't know
quite why, I bet it's calls have only a passing resemblance to what we think
of as chanting. (Gregorian, etc...). I've certain their calls are similar to
other gos's. It's just a name, like prothonotary warbler, which was named
after a clerk in the British Parliment. That little yellow warbler shows no
resemblance whatsoever to a bewigged and well fed human being. It's just a
name. Old squaws don't look like elderly native Americans, do they? Chanting
Goshawk is just an evocative and enchanting name for a lovely raptor.
