Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday February 24. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The MOUNTAIN PLOVER that has been seen at the Dunes Overlook, south of
Florence, has apparently moved south to a beach south of the Umpqua
River.

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON seen on Wallowa Lake February 12 and 13 has not
been seen since. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, TREE SPARROWS, and COMMON REDPOLLS
are still being seen in northeastern Oregon, but in much lower numbers
then before.

Increasing numbers of TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, TURKEY VULTURES,
and hawks are now being reported as the spring migration is picking up.
Many birds are on territory and are now singing. The RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD
migration reached the Columbia River in Clatsop County by last week-end.

Up to 20 KITTIWAKES were at Brookings February 21. The EMPEROR GEESE on
Kilches Meadows, north of Tillamook were seen February 17, but were
missed this past week-end.

The CLAY-COLORED and HARRIS'S SPARROWS continue to be seen at the East
Side Checking Station on Sauvie Island. SANDHILL CRANES and BALD EAGLES
are now increasing on the Island. On February 19 a probable hybrid
SAPSUCKER was observed along the slough near Reeder Beach.

The PALM WARBLER continues to be seen in North Portland along 33d Avenue,
north of Columbia Blvd. On February 20 a WHITE PELICAN was near the Sea
Scout Base along Marine Drive in North Portland. It was last seen flying
toward Ridgefield NWR.

SAY'S PHOEBES are now arriving in Central Oregon and were reported from
several areas. Large numbers of ROSS'S GEESE are now at the Miller Island
Wildlife Area, south of Klamath Falls, while large numbers of SNOW GEESE
are now at the Summer Lake Wildlife Area. The SNOWS will soon move to
Malhuer NWR and the ROSS'S will shift to Summer Lake.

Thats it for this week.
