Dear Tweeters, For the past several months, my male and female hairies
have visited my suet on a regular basis,as well as a pair of townsends.( The
male Townsends actually chased the female hairy off
his favorite feeder a few days ago). For the last week the pair of
hairies have come to the feeders together, and have been hammering
some as well, and "pic"ing back and forth. Two years ago they tried to nest
in a neighbors tree, only to be overcome by starlings. This winter is the
first time I have had the pair feeding since then.
Today I put out dog hair(I get it Free from a dog grooming salon),in
an old suet basket hoping to find them using it for nesting.
I hope to see some action at this very popular basket. Lst year I had a
female house finch take so much she looked like a flying fluff,
you couldn't see her face or breast at all; and she did this several
times, I don't know how she could see to get where she needed to go!
