Another gorgeous day - sun, no wind, not cold, no wind, dry path. Five of us
enjoyed this morning's walk, and there was a lot to enjoy. Highlights
included:
Horned Grebe 1 on lake
Green Heron Fantastic view, at main dog swim area
Gr. Wh.-fronted Goose 1 flew low over lake platform
Bald Eagle Pair well south on e. lakeshore, adult flying
over R/C field
Cooper's Hawk 1 adult, prob. male
Cedar Waxwing Perhaps 25 at main dog swim area
Western Meadowlark 10 or so at Interpretive lot
The Green Heron continuously pumped his tail, a behavior I've not seen before.
For the first time in a while, there was a sizable mixed flock of gulls on the
grass soccer fields this morning (this winter has been notable for a lack of
gulls), including Mew, Ring-billed, and Glaucous-winged.
American Robin, Song Sparrow, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Bewick's Wren,
White-crowned Sparrow, and Meadowlark were all singing.
As in recent weeks, there were many (25+) Green-winged Teal at the Rowing Club,
many calling Virginia Rail along the boardwalk, ruby crowns on the Ruby-crowned
Kinglets, and a few scattered Purple Finch.
All in all, some really great views, and around 48 species total.
