Today my mother and I birded Grays Harbor Co., with a short stop during the
AM made at Mud Bay, near Tumwater, Thurston Co., along Madrona Beach Rd.,
where 20 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and a pair of Barrow's Goldeneyes were
present. Along S.Blockhouse Rd., off of Hwy.12, S of Elma, 25 TUNDRA SWANS
were observed. The entire Brady Loop Rd. was quite productive, mainly for
raptors with a pair of AM.KESTRELS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, and 1 adult COOPER'S HAWK, among the several Red-tailed Hawks,
Northern Harriers, and Bald Eagles. 5 TUNDRA SWANS, 23 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, and 58 DUNLIN were also noted along the route in flooded fieds. A
W.SCRUB JAY was observed, just E of Vance Creek County Park. A fairly quick
stop made at Bowerman Basin, produced another ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK for the
day, but very few ducks on the Hoquim Sewage Ponds. Our last stop of the
day was made at Shouweiler Rd. at the Chehalis Widlife Area, where 11
TUNDRA SWANS, 5 V.RAILS, and a HAIRY WOODPECKER were noted, before it began
to rain.
