Sightings for Sunday, February 27th

Rare bird alert continues for an adult breeding plumaged ICELAND GULL in the
fields north of Burn's Drive, also seen here was an adult plumaged GLAUCOUS
GULL and several HERRING GULLS, 1 adult WESTERN GULL and 1 CALIFORNIA GULL.
Up to nine species of gulls were reported in this one field throughout the
day.

At Point Robert's, at the rock jetty near the marina was 1 SURFBIRD which
was found with 29 BLACK TURNSTONES.

At the Reifel Refuge the SWAMP SPARROW was relocated near the observation
tower. Also reported from the refuge were 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 5,000 SNOW
GEESE, 2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS and 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS.

At the south end of the Robert's Bank Coal Port Jetty were 4 REDHEADS (2
males and 2 females), and an EARED GREBE. The WILLET was again seen at its
usual spot at the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty. Also seen along the
jetty were 22 BLACK TURNSTONES and 4 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

In Chilliwack at Kem (sp?) wetlands, 2 TREE SWALLOWS were watched feeding up
high over the marsh.

The 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were again seen today along the Vancouver
docks off Roger's Street.


Saturday, February 26th

An adult near breeding plumage ICELAND GULL was seen in fields north of
Burn's Drive at 1:00 pm. Also in the area were many other gulls including 4
CALIFORNIA GULLS.

At Ferguson Point in Stanley Park, ROCK SANDPIPERS were seen with up to
40-50 BLACK TURNSTONES and a flock of SANDERLINGS.

At Iona Island a BARN SWALLOW was seen at the relamation pond, or the pond
north of the outer pond.

At the Reifel Refuge the following birds were recorded: up to 16 COMMON
REDPOLLS, 2 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, 2
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS, 2 CANVASBACKS, 5 LONG-EARED OWLS and a bird
believed to be a female REDHEAD. Near by at the Tsawwassen ferry jetty were
the 4 SNOWBUNTINGS and the WILLET.

Near the docks on the Vancouver waterfront was a group of 3 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE (1 adult, 2 immatures), at Roger's Street and Stewart
Street.

In Pitt Meadows a SNOW GOOSE was reported with a large flock of CANADIAN
GEESE along Harris Road, also 1 PEREGRINE FALCON was recorded.

In south Surrey came reports of 2 male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, with one bird
believed to be on territory. While at Inglis and Agar Road on the south
side of the international airport at Sea Island a male GREEN-WINGED TEAL
(Eurasian form) was observed feeding with a flock of regular GREEN-WINGED
TEALS.


Friday, February 25th

At the Reifel Refuge the following birds were reported: 2 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT HERONS, 1 GREAT-HORNED OWL, 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, 2 COMMON
REDPOLLS

At Iona Island 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER was again in a flock of DUNLIN and
SANDERLING at the tip of the south jetty.
