It is an article/photo essay on extinct island birds. I assume
the species Gene specifically meant was the Guam Flycatcher, as quoted below from the article -

"Guam Flycatcher
"Although small, this broad-billed bird (below, left) from the American territory of Guam in the western Pacific Ocean was both territorial and aggressive. But that feistiness wasnt enough to save it from the brown tree snake, an alien intruder that probably arrived on a military plane or ship after World War II, then preyed on Guam birds. About 460 still remained in 1981. Just two years later, not one was found."

I think most birders do something, be it large or small, to help
the environment and to help bird conservation. Unfortunately, it
may not always be enough.
