Among other things, Kridler says:
Most , but not all, Mainland birders give no thought to endangerment of
species, but are just interested in chalking up another bird on their
weekly, monthly, yearly or life list and do nothing for the welfare of
wildlife. Harsh words but true.
Come now. Interest in a life list appears inconsistent with indifference to
endangerment of species. I don't have as many years experience as Kridler,
but mine and I am sure others' observations are contrary to the above.
Kridler does disservice to the many birders activily involved in conservation
efforts. Krider's focus on endangered species is also restrictive. Concern
should be for all species, which primarily means concern for habitat, which
means involvement in governmental processes. Cranky alone just doesn't do
it. Ed Level, Everett, WA, eelevel at aol.com
