Saturday Sandy and I decided to go for the Northern Hawk Owl at Chelan
and then go on up to Okanogan Highlands.

We did not get over there until 1.30 pm Sat. There were two couples
from Cle Elum all ready looking when we arrived. Phil Mattocks was
there twice on Saturday, too. We checked the hills for the bird until
5.00 pm...that's right...even after it was dark and did not see it.
Not wanting to give up too easy we stayed in Chelan and we were back
at the location at 7.15 am this morning Phil was all ready there. We
searched the top of every pine on the east side of the road and
everything on the west side. We saw Copper's, Red-tailed and
Rough-legged Hawks, Northern Shrike, Stellar's Jay and many other
birds but no Northern Hawk Owl! We left at 10.30 and went into
Wenatchee and returned at 3.00 pm and searched again until dark.
Debbie Brown from Moxee was there. No bird!

We spent some time visiting with Dick and Roberta Simonds of Chelan.
They made several trips up down the road, as they live close by.

We never did see the bird, but we met alot of nice people. Guess we
should have been
crazy like Richard and been there at the crack of dawn Saturday.
Congratulations Richard!

Our Okanogan Highlands trip is postponed until next week....unless the
Owl is spotted
again.
