Subject: Woodpecker

As I was birding the gully yesterday I spied a small woodpecker way up in a
tree. I would have said it was a downy, but it appeared through my binos to
have a plain black back, dark nape, and noticeably white face. Looked too
small to be a pileated, and I couldn't discern a crest. Now, I didn't get an
extremely good look at the critter, but what is the possibility of seeing a
White-Headed Woodpecker on this side of the mountains in December?
