Tweeters,
I received this message today and we have permission from the landowners to
advertise this Snowy Owl. In addition to the directions Doug gives below,
it probably can also be viewed from the parking area in back of the Bar 14
Restaurant on the north side of I-90 at Exit 109. This is the main exit
into Ellensburg.
Good luck!

Subject: SNOWY OWL In ELLENSBURG
Date: Tuesday, January 04, 2000 5:44 PM
Hi Andy,
I got a call this afternoon about a mostly white owl about one foot tall so
I was leery, but went to investigate and found a fine specimen of an
immature Snowy Owl, normal size!
It is located in the large hay field NE of the Bar 14 Cafe, which is right
off the east exit for Ellensburg. It's approximately 1/2 to 3/4 mile north
of Interstate 90. If you go up to the first stoplight and turn right on
Mountain View and go east past a new light to Bull Road, (just inside the
city limits going towards Kittitas), and turn south on this Bull Road it
was last seen (5:15 pm today) perched up on a red barn roof, about 1/4 mile
south of this intersection right on the edge of town. It has apparently
been around most of the day.
I will be around the office tomorrow and if someone is having problems
finding it, I'm at 925-6746 (Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife).
Good birding!
Doug
