I gather from an excited reply just received from Bryan Mathews,
Gr8HrndOwl at aol.com, and just back from Chelan that he must have seen the
Northern Hawk Owl.

I have just cleared the way for a local contact if you'd rather call or email
first before making a long winter trip east of the Cascades. The family that
lives right there and shared the moment with me on New Year's morning have
become quite interested and willing to act as scouts to keep watching out for
the Hawk Owl. They are wonderful folks but insisted that I emphasize that
they are casual birdwatchers and not authorities but up to this point have
enjoyed it thoroughly. After all this, it sounds like they are on the cusp
becoming avid birders :-)). They are:
Jan and Dave Ellis, and son Seth,

Good luck everyone! :-)) --Richard Rowlett
