Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This

The MOUNTAIN PLOVER wintering on the beach at the Dunes Overlook, south
of Florence, continues to be seen.

A HOODED ORIOLE was observed in Brookings December 29 and has remained.
If interested call Ken Goldwater 541-469-0858.

On December 31 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at the base of the south jetty
of the Rogue River in Gold Beach; a WILSON'S WARBLER was in Port Orford;
and a YELLOW-BILLED LOON was in the Port Orford boat basin. On January 1
two VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, a TREE, and a BARN SWALLOW were over the Port
Orford mill pond.

The January 2 Coquille Count noted 3 CINNAMON TEAL, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a MOCKINGBIRD, and a NASHVILLE WARBLER among the
154 species counted. During the week a YELLOWTHROAT, a GOLDEN EAGLE, two
SWAMP SPARROWS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were at
Millicoma Marsh in Coos Bay.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR and two SNOW BUNTINGS were at the South Jetty of
Yaquina Bay January 2. Large numbers of gulls are now at Siletz Bay.
Among them are 1200 HERRING GULLS and 400 THAYER'S GULLS. The two EMPEROR
GEESE are still being seen on Kilches Meadows along Hwy 101 north of
Tillamook.

An unusual group of sparrows are now at the East Side Checking Station at
Rentenaar Road on the east side of Sauvie Island. Among the many
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS are a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, a HARRIS'S SPARROW, a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO. Farther down Rentenaar
are WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and a SWAMP SPARROW. Up to 400 SNOW GEESE are
now in that area, and occasionally the ROSS'S GOOSE is seen. On January 2
three TREE SWALLOWS were along Oak Island Road on the Island; the day
before one was at Ridgefield NWR.

On January 2 a BLACK PHOEBE was seen in Milwaukie, and is still being
seen. Turn off Hwy 224 onto Pheasant Court and drive north the end of the
road. Park, and walk north about 20 yards along the railroad tracks. Then
walk about 400 yards east on the dike to a fenced enclosure where the
bird is being seen. The 33d Avenue PALM WARBLER in North Portland is
still being seen. On January 1 two OLDSQUAWS were on the Columbia River
along Marine Drive in North Portland, but they did not remain.

On December 30 four TRUMPETER SWANS and a BARN SWALLOW were at the south
