Columbia Estuary Report - 01/09/1999

The funny looking duck reported from Warrenton Sewage Ponds
was not around when I went to get pictures this morning.
General concensus is that an unadulterated COMMON POCHARD
would not show a bright yellow eye and that this is, at best,
a hybrid. For what it's worth my sketch from yesterday can

The trip yesterday also turned up at least 2 ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLERS and a very friendly TOWNSEND'S WARBLER at the Sewage
Ponds.

Steve Warner reports a CLARK'S GREBE from Seaside.

I drove the beach from Sunset Access to Gearhart Approach this
morning in a stiff (50km/hr) wind and light rain. 350 SANDERLINGS,
30 DUNLIN and WESTERN SANDPIPER seems kind of low for this time of
year. A GLAUCOUS GULL, 2 BRANT and a sub-adult PEREGRINE were
also on the beach.
