Tried again for the Northern Hawk Owl, but it was not to be seen.
We arrived at 7:30 Saturday morning, and spent about two hours
looking. We meet Pam and Vince of Chelan and spent some time
together searching "the" area.

Then we decided to head out for our third annual Okanogan
Highlands trip. When we left Tonasket and started up the hill towards
Havillah, the fog was so thick you could barely see the tops of the
power
poles. Arriving at Havillah, we were out of the fog, the sun was
shinning,
there was fresh snow and it was beautiful!!!

Some of the highlights were RED POLLS ( about 70 in two groups),
CLARK'S
NUTCRACKER, GRAY JAY, NORTHERN PYGMY OWL, MERLIN, and
flock of SNOW BUNTINGS (about 200) and one GOLDEN EAGLE . We saw only
one RED CROSSBILL.
The list for the highlands was 16 species.

We went back to Chelan and spent the last day light hour looking for
the owl.
Donna and Steve Ferrill were there and said we had not missed
anything.
We spent the night in Chelan and tried again this am. Phil Mattocks
was there, too.
It was snowing like crazy. No owl. At 9.00 am went to breakfast, came
back about 10.30 am still no Owl. Well, we should get the persistence
award.

Guess it was not our time to see it.

The drive home was sunny. We checked the waters along the way. We
added GREEN
WINGED TEALS, CANVAS BACKS, a KILLDEER and many others to our
week-end list. Except for not locating the owl it was a great birding
trip.
