Been there! The rare bird isn't at the prescribed spot &
as soon as I start searching elsewhere, the bird will show up.
Missing the Dotterel that way caused me to look for a solution.
I purchased a couple of small two-way FM radios.
They have a range of about two miles.
If we all had a two-way radio, we could get on the same channel,
spread out in cars or on foot & greatly expand our search without
as much worry about missing out.
They also work good in birding caravans.
(So why did those cars behind me stop?)
I happened to choose Cobra Micro-Talk3 with ni-cad rechargeable
batteries plus a recharger unit. About $240 for two, but I probably
spent that much on the Dotterel chase. (& I'm not despondent!)
Good Birding,
