Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday January 13. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A male COMMON POCHARD was observed January 8 on the Warrenton Sewage
Ponds. It could not be relocated. The possibility it was an escapee or
hybrid is suspected.

The BLUE JAY at Sisters continues to be seen, as is the MOUNTAIN PLOVER
at the Dunes Overlook south of Florence.

A possible winter plumaged SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was reported January 12
at the Lincoln City Sewage Ponds.

On January 8 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in Brookings. A GOLDEN EAGLE was
south of Bandon January 6. Two YELLOWTHROATS, 13 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS,
2 CINNAMON TEAL, and a SHORT-EARED OWL were seen during the week at
Millicoma Marsh in Coos Bay. On January 6 four SNOWY EGRETS, 17 MARBLED
GODWITS, 3 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS, 3 OLDSQUAWS, and a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE
were about Coos Bay near Charleston. A CATTLE EGRET and 56 GREAT EGRETS
were at Myrtle Point January 7.

An ANCIENT MURRELET was at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River January
8. Another was at Boiler Bay January 12. Two ROCK SANDPIPERS were at Seal
Rock State Park, south of Newport January 11. This is the most dependable
spot for this species in Oregon. The unusual gull concentration continues
at Siletz Bay. On January 11 over 900 Herring and 300 Thayer's Gulls were
noted in the flock.

The two EMPEROR GEESE continue to be seen along Highway 101 at Kilches
Meadows north of Tillamook. On January 11 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was
observed off Highway 6 in the Wilson river meadows east of Tillamook.

Another RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove
January 10. Also there that day were two BALD EAGLES, 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS,
a PEREGRINE FALCON, a HARRIER, and a KESTREL.

The sparrow flock at the East Side Checking Station on Sauvie Island
containing the HARRIS'S and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continue to allow close
inspection. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was at Blue Lake Park near Troutdale
January 6.

On January 1 an EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was in Minto-Brown Park in
Salem. Another was with 3 EURASIAN WIGEON near Stewart Pond in Eugene
Janaury 9.

Large numbers of shorebirds continue to be seen at Fern Ridge Reservoir
west of Eugene. On January 12 two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were in the farm
fields along Plainview Drive north of Brownsville.

On January 6 a REDPOLL began visiting a feeder in NW Eugene. It has since
been seen several times in the neighborhood. The HARRIS'S SPARROW
continues to be seen in Golden Garden Park in Eugene.

The two SCRUB-JAYS and 36 REDPOLLS found on the Prineville Count continue
to be seen. A January 12 trip to the Fort Rock/ Silver Lake area found a
number of birds of prey including 17 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, a FERRUGINOUS
HAWK, two NORTHERN SHRIKES, and 2 HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWKS.
