Subject: The Bog Along The Lake Fenwick Trail

Hi Tweeties,

While I hiking the east side of the Lake Fenwick trail I spied a fairly long
and deep bog. I thought it was there last spring and summer, but the
vegetation is far too thick to really see into it. It looks like it begins
directly below the stair climb and extends south to the little pond on the
east side of the boardwalk. This bog looks like the remains of a glacier
created formation like the ones around Olympia only not quite as deep. Has
anybody explored this bog and checked out what lives in and around it? It
looks like great habitat for small mammals like weasels, otters, raccoons,
muskrats, skunks etc.

It was from the general direction of the bog I heard the weird call. About
halfway between the boardwalk and the stair climb I HEARD something very
loud and unusual. It was coming from ground level or in a low bush or tree.
It was a very staccato "Doe!" "Doe!" "Too!" The overall sound was like
loud squeaky toy. It wasn't a towhee, too loud and weird. Never saw it.

Would a rail live in this kind of woodland sunken bog? I know rails have
very loud voices.

Thanks,
