Today's gorgeous weather called for a brief trip to the U. of W. Arboretum.
We told each other it was for our dog, but took binoculars along anyway. We
were rewarded by seeing literally dozens of VARIED THRUSHES. Not much else
to see, although a squirrel was kind enough to slow down a bit to reward the
dog by making the compulsory chase exciting.

Take the upper road (I think it's called Arboretum Drive East) and park in
the southernmost pull-off. It's on the west side of the road. Walk west
about fifty feet and then north on the main path that parallels the road.
This is just above the gazebo at the top of the grassy hill. The path quite
soon is surrounded by Rhododendrons on both sides, and it is in here that we
saw most of the birds: both on the ground and in nearby trees.
